Struttin’ Show-offs baton twirling is committed to encouraging all twirlers to strive for excellence and to grow personally through the process.  We believe that each twirler has the ability to increase their emotional and physical part of their skills and mind set.  Our instructors strive to give highest quality of twirling along with nurturing each student’s gift of talent.  We wish for our students to achieve their goals and strive to enjoy the lessons along the journey.  We are dedicated to teaching the life lessons that are incorporated with the sport of twirling and team work as well as individuality.

HOLLIE HIGGINS - Owner

Hollie Higgins’ twirling career began at age eleven.  She was a majorette at the Junior High and High School level and later twirled in college at U.A.B.  

Hollie began her teaching career at the age of 18, as the owner of Struttin’ Show-offs. She was named as the choreographer for U.A.B. majorettes at only 21 years of age.  She is a former Miss Majorette of Alabama and Miss Teenage Majorette of America.  Hollie’s competition soloists and teams have won state, regional and national titles. She is very proud that many of her students have twirled at the collegiate level and hopes to see many more do the same. 

Hollie lives in Helena with her husband, David, and two wonderful sons, Michael and Caleb

MELISSA GULLATTE - Senior Coach

Melissa twirled with Struttin' Show-offs for 10 years. She was a member of the state champion Spain Park High School majorette line and competed individually and on teams. Several of her individual titles include Miss Majorette Queen Grand Champion, Miss Majorette of the South, Twirltacular Grand Champion, and second runner up at the Miss Twirlmania International Championships. Melissa was an Auburn University majorette for five years and was the Captain for her final two years. She has been teaching baton since graduating from Auburn and is our competitive baton team coach.

Melissa studied business and studio art at Auburn University and now owns a wedding calligraphy + stationery design business. Melissa lives in Hoover with her husband, Daniel.

LAUREN SCHMIDT- Assistant Coach

Lauren danced with Nix Dance Studio, in Auburn, Alabama for 14 years.  She was a member of their competitive dance teams for 7 years.  During those years the team won multiple Starbound National Competitions, On Tour Dance Challenges, Showbiz Competitions, and regional titles.  Lauren also won Dancer of the Year as well as the Senior Dance Award.  Lauren was a member of the Auburn High School majorette line for three years and was a member of the Auburn University majorette line for four years. Lauren taught baton in high school and college, and continued teaching baton when she moved to Florida after graduating from Auburn University. 

Lauren studied Mathematics with a focus in Actuary Science and worked for a Natural Gas Company. She is currently working on her Masters in Industrial Engineering at Auburn University. Lauren and her husband, Chad, recently moved to Birmingham and she is excited to join the Struttin’ Show-offs team!

SOHPIE COLEMAN - Assistant Coach

Sophie Coleman has been twirling for 10 years under Hollie’s leadership.  She is so excited that God has provided this opportunity to student teach with Struttin’ Show-offs these past two years.  God has given Sophie a sweet love for students, and she is excited to be able to work with the Struttin’ Show-offs staff.
